I didn't do a great job starting out! Nonetheless, I didn't give up. I paid off my undergraduate student loan on June 3, 2017. In addition, I cut up all of my store credit cards in June of 2018.

Thanks for speaking with us today Ro. Looking forward to learning more about your business and your journey.

Can you tell us what type of business you run and how long you've been operating this business?

I am a serviced based business with a concentration in Financial Coaching. I have been operating since February 2021 (5 months)

Can you share with us some details about how you got started in the Financial Consulting Industry?

I've never heard anyone say the word "budget" before until a more mature friend of mine mentioned it in 2013. Then another friend of mine mentioned it again in 2014. Late 2015, my sister suggested that I listen to a money podcast. After some time passed, I was inspired to try this thing all out called a budget. My first budget ever was in March of 2016. I didn't do a great job starting out! Nonetheless, I didn't give up. I paid off my undergraduate student loan on June 3, 2017. In addition, I cut up all of my store credit cards in June of 2018.

In May of 2018, I decided to go back to school for my master's. Out of fear that I wouldn't be able to provide for myself financially, I took out another student loan. In the meantime, I planned out all of my trips and paid cash for them while saving to pay off my second student loan debt after I graduated with my master's degree.

During the summer of 2018, I went on two cruises. Also, I went to Cancun for my sister's 30th birthday in September of 2018. In addition, I went on three mission trips in 2019.  On top of that, I went to Virginia for a bachelorette weekend right before COVID.

In July of 2019, I did it! I graduated with my master's degree. Then I started throwing everything towards my debt. After much intentionality and determination, I paid off my second student loan of $16,676.98 in 8 months. I've been debt-free since April 15, 2020. I created a healthy balance of having fun while enhancing my financial situation.

I can't forget to mention that my vehicle got totaled in an accident in October of 2019.

Also, I got let go from my regular 9-5 job due to anticipated budget cuts because of the pandemic on May 12th, 2020. Fortunately, I managed the expected expenses and prepared for the unexpected, which caused no real financial crisis.

That is what brings me here today. I want to equip and empower you to manage the expected and prepare for the unexpected with your finances.

If you've had some challenges and roadblocks along the way. Can you share with us what some of those challenges have been in regards to starting or running this business and how you overcame them?

I had zero knowledge on how to run a business.

  • I joined the Business Boutique Academy to learn some basics / fundamentals on my own in April 2020.
  • Completed Financial Coaching Master Training program in January 2021.
  • Then I found myself a business coach in January 2021.
  • Received Quickbooks training in February of 2021.
  • Opened a business checking and savings account in March of 2021.
  • I had a friend of mine show me some basics of photoshop in April of 2021.
  • Completed Ramsey Preferred Boot Camp in May of 2021.
  • Joined Honeybooks in May of 2021 (created templates and automation of workflow).
  • Completed UPWRD Spring 2021 Cohort in June of 2021.

Let's talk about the services you offer, who do you help, and how do you help?

I equip and empower clients to manage the expected and prepare for the unexpected with your finances.

  • Provide insight on a good defense and offense for their financial situation
  • Budgeting
  • Wealth Building / Investing
  • Properly Insured
  • Debt Elimination

What's your best advice for those that desire to improve their finances?

My biggest advice is. . .

  • Increase your awareness of your spending or lack of spending habits (money habits)
  • Know your motivations behind spending and or saving
  • Get an accountability partner and or financial coach
  • Understand that a lifestyle change isn’t the end of the world (live on less than you make)
  • Stay connected with a community (your support system)
  • If you are a financial coach, you should have a coach
  • Know that some purchases can wait
  • Know that you don’t have to do it all
  • Track your every dollar
  • Read books and listen to podcasts (self educate)

With all that you've accomplished so far, did setting goals contribute to your success so far?

For sure! I even posted it around my home as a reminder of what I am trying to accomplish by a certain date.

Here at GoalSetters, we like to say " A Goal Without A Plan is Just A Wish", what's your advice on the best way that people can go about accomplishing the goals that they set?

In my opinion, the best way that people can go about accomplishing the goals is by

  • Knowing and understanding their “why” (foundational)
  • Increase self-awareness
  • Accountability/Community/Support System
  • Set specific and measurable goals that are relevant to your current situation
  • Set goals that are achievable by writing them down and give it a set time limit.

In closing, for those that may require your services or may need mentorship, how can they connect with you?
