Darnesheia Coleman

Founder: Exactly Turner Services

Can you tell us what type of business you run and how long you've been operating this business?

Exactly Turner Services is a small accounting firm that specializes in individual and small business taxation, bookkeeping, audits, payroll, and business formation. Although ETS is not limited to just those areas, our goal is to cater to busy taxpayers like families, moms, students, essential workers, and any one who needs to get their taxes taken care of without the anxiety of coming to an office.

Turner Services has been serving our customers virtually since 2017. We are a small home base office that has a virtual office or who meets their clients face to face via virtual technology.

Can you share with us some details about how you got started in the Accounting Industry?

In high school I was always interested in finance so when I enrolled at the University of Houston, I wanted a career that was not easily perishable and that can evolve over time. So I decided to get my bachelors in accounting and later my Master of Science in Accounting from the Prairie View A&M University.

From there I obtained jobs in audit and taxation that led me to pursue my Enrolled Agent Certification as well as a Certificate Fraud Examiner. Both certificates allow me to better understand tax law and service my clients in ways that make them feel sure that their taxes are taken care of by a professional. Now that I started ETS, I am able to provide that peace of mind and perseverance to my customers knowing they are in good hands.

If you've had some challenges and roadblocks along the way, Can you share with us what some of those challenges have been in regards to starting or running this business and how you overcame them?

Like any other entrepreneur, you will find out that owning and operating your own business has challenges that make you feel like you want to give up. You often have to be your own secretary, manager, technician and much more in order for business operations to run smoothly. I have learned that community resources as well as software can help alleviate some of that pressure and can prevent you from feeling overwhelmed in your busy season.

Let's talk about the services you offer with Exactly Turner Services, who do you help, and how do you help?

Exactly Turner Services services the general public in all 50 states and territories. Our ideal client is of the working class, has a family, small business owners, and outstanding citizens in our community. Here at ETS no tax situation is too difficult for us to take on. We take pride in solving tax matters that involve reducing a tax debt owed to the IRS or helping eliminate the tax debt in its entirety.

When it comes to accounting, what sets Exactly Turner Services apart from similar businesses in your industry?

I believe what helps sets ETS apart from competitors is our patience and expertise in certain matters of taxation when dealing with the average client who is afraid of taxes and weary of how important this subject matter really is in our society. Here at ETS, we will not just do your taxes , but we will take the time to consult with you and educate you on your unique tax situation.

For example, one of the biggest questions I always get is why is my refund lower this year than last year? My responses to these questions are to have a consultation on withholding from paychecks, dependents, selling of assets or educating them on whatever topic so that they can walk away with more of an understanding of their tax matters than what they had before ETS.

As an accounting expert, what is the number one finance move that every teacher can make to save on taxes?

Teachers are some of my favorite clients. The reason why is because the Internal Revenue Service has a section just for them! A teacher can write off $250 in teacher supplies yearly as well as mileage, wardrobe, and many other job impairment related expenses. I encourage each educator to keep all receipts from such activities related to going to campus or traveling for the school so that we can visit these expenses before tax season.

With all that you've accomplished so far, did setting goals contribute to your success so far?

Without setting a goal your plans do not have a direction. I often like to go about setting goals by drafting preliminary outcomes of the goal that I plan to accomplish. By planning this hypothetical situation, it allows me to predict and steer the outcome until the desired goal is reached. For example, if your goal is to finish college next year, then you need to also plan what comes immediately after. You shouldn't just plan to graduate but rather plan the next 3-5 years after graduation.

Here at GoalSetters, we like to say " A Goal Without A Plan is Just A Wish", what's your advice on the best way that people can go about accomplishing the goals that they set?

In closing, for those that may require your services or may need mentorship, how can they connect with you?
