I had a brand sponsored post and giveaway back in May of this year and because I didn’t insist on getting a contract in place - I ended up having to hound the company for months to get the check. Five months later - the check was in my hands. Talk about waste of time! But, lesson learned on my part.

Can you tell us what type of business you run and how long you've been operating this business?

I’ve been a practicing attorney in the State of Texas for the past 7+ years, nominated to the Texas Super Lawyers Rising Stars list the last four (4) years. Within the past six months, I narrowed my practice down from family law - to helping female entrepreneurs.

As a practicing attorney, broadly, I help female entrepreneurs legally setup and operate their small business and set them up for success. Being a blogger myself, I specialize in helping female creatives—bloggers, podcasters, photographers, coaches, etc. I do this by providing legal templates on my website (
theExtraBlog.com) and offering legal consulting services (think brand or client contract review, negotiation tactics for working with brands + help when brands don’t pay on time) all for a discounted price, much cheaper than my hourly rate at my law firm.

I love helping beginner bloggers specifically with setting up a blog and then later when they grow, making sure they have a contract to work with when it comes to making money through brand sponsorships. I have a page on my website specifically devoted to educational materials & resources on how to start a blog from scratch as well as a Blogger Contract template that I personally use myself to land brand sponsors.

Finally, owning my own law firm for the past four years has taught me a plethora of business lessons and no-nos. I share these helpful business tips + tricks on Instagram (@TaylortheAttorney) for female entrepreneurs to kill it in business.

Can you share with us some details about how you got started Blogging for Entrepreneurs?

The pandemic hit and all of a sudden women really weren’t able to find work. But, I started to see all of these women online starting small businesses (in the middle of the pandemic!) because of the lack of employment. Then it hit me. They had put the bare bones of a business up, but lacked the knowledge to run their business legally and the funds to speak with an attorney to get their business to the next level. They needed a cheaper way to set up an LLC, execute an Operating Agreement, and get legally required policies in place for their website (Privacy Policies) so they could conduct business online. So, the Extra Blog was launched to help women do just that!

If you've had some challenges and roadblocks along the way, Can you share with us what some of those challenges have been in regards to starting or running this business and how you overcame them?

There’s highs and lows for every business owner and I believe we all still have lessons to learn. I had a brand sponsored post and giveaway back in May of this year and because I didn’t insist on getting a contract in place - I ended up having to hound the company for months to get the check. Five months later - the check was in my hands. Talk about waste of time! But, lesson learned on my part. This only benefits my clients as now I know specifically what to write in to help bloggers protect themselves - a lot of them work payment to payment!

I know from our previous talk that you work primarily with women. What made you want to inspire women and give them hope?

I went to law school in the fall of 2011, right after graduating from the University of Texas at Austin. While in law school, I clerked at a family law firm in Dallas and fell in love with helping women out of one of the hardest times of their lives, going through a divorce. I quickly noticed the disparity in wages and standard of living after divorce between a husband who spent 20 years working while his wife stayed at home with three kids.

Fast forward to 2020, I had been practicing family law for 6 years and co-owned my own law firm with my husband (FTAttorneys). I at that point had seen women who had been put through the wringer. Stay at home moms would often end up almost destitute after a divorce with little to no hope of finding a job that actually gave them a living wage and allowed themselves to fully support their kids.

I saw a need for women to get affordable legal consulting and document formation help. So, the Extra Blog was launched to help women do just that!

How important is it for female entrepreneurs and creatives to legally protect their businesses and digital property?

Incredibly, I actually wrote a blog post on a closely related issue, Why Creatives Need An LLC & A Solid Contract. But, they also need protection on their website as well. A privacy policy is a legally required document for any website owner and domestic as well as international regulations do apply. If you have any sort of newsletter going out  or sales going on your website - then you also need a terms and conditions document as well.

With all that you've accomplished so far, did setting goals contribute to your success so far?

Yes, absolutely. I’ve recently gotten into “manifesting,” but I hate that word.  I prefer to think of it more as a brain dump for all the goals I want to accomplish in life and in business. It turns out looking like a mind map with goals and achievements highlighted. Then, I think it’s also important to follow up on those goals and make sure you’re putting in the daily work to get to those ultimate goals.

Here at GoalSetters, we like to say " A Goal Without A Plan is Just A Wish", what's your advice on the best way that people can go about accomplishing the goals that they set?

I actually wrote a blog post on this topic, Doing Research + Setting Goals; you can read it in full here. But, essentially, I think it breaks down to five (5) simple steps when it comes to making goals and sticking to them:

  1. Evaluate + Research Your Situation: This is the most skipped over step in the process which is why I think the most undervalued step is the most important! You aren’t planning just short terms goals - what do you want to accomplish moving forward with your life/business/brand in 4 months, 8 months, a year? This takes a lot of research to do correctly.
  2. Make S.M.A.R.T. Goals: You’ve heard this before Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time Bound Goals - write these SMART acronyms out if you need to!
  3. Write It Down & Break It Down: I’m big on heading to the corner of my closet with a pad of paper and ball point pen, but others prefer their computers - whatever your jam - just write! Break everything down into smaller and smaller tasks and goals until you can’t anymore.
  4. Develop Systems + Habits: Developing systems and habits will ultimately be one of the things that will sustain you in the long term and also help when it comes to hiring. My blog post has a framework on how to develop systems at work, if you need it.
  5. Hold Yourself Accountable: this is the hardest for me, but when done properly, holding yourself accountable should lead to sustainable, long-term results.

This is how I achieve success and maintain my business day after day, year after year. Again, feel free to read the full article (
Doing Research + Setting Goals) or my Ultimate Productivity Guide, which is helpful as well when it comes to setting goals and actually achieving them.
