Nancy Sievert

Founder  QB Training Experts LTD

Can you tell us what type of business you run and how long you've been operating this business?

I own and operate QB Training Experts Ltd and my subsidiary company QB Training Experts Academy. I have been in the business for 30+ years, just sold my accounting/bookkeeping business which I had for 27 years and started this company + years ago.

Can you share with us some details about how you got started in the Bookkeeping Industry?

I think many of us follow in our father’s footsteps and I was no different. He was a businessman so it was somewhat expected that my University Education would be in business. I majored in Finance / minored in Accounting and then studied towards the CPA designation.

From there I worked as a Securities Accountant for the City of Calgary in charge of the accounting of a $250M portfolio. Moving home I was controller for various national companies, before starting my own business.

Have you had any previous businesses before this one? What was the outcome of those businesses?

Yes - an accounting/bookkeeping business for 27 years.

What gave you the drive to continue forward with another business even after having previously failed business ventures?

I didn’t fail at my previous venture, I just really wanted a change. I have always LOVED teaching and training. It was my dream to make a business out of this as I saw a real need.

I wanted to financially empower business owners and take away their fear of paperwork, bookkeeping while at the same time helping them to understand how to properly read Current Accurate financial statements on their OWN business, in order to make definitive decisions towards their business’s prosperity.

This was seriously lacking in my years of experience. Bookkeeping was a necessary evil and an expense mandatory in order to pay taxes.

You've definitely had some challenges and roadblocks along the way. Can you share with us what some of those challenges have been in regards to starting or running this business and how you overcame them?

With this particular business it is learning all the necessary marketing IT to get the word out. Also to really understand my target market. I know this will be constantly evolving.

My time must be spent in keeping up to date with all the latest accounting software and related application updates. So to add IT (other than absolute essentials such as EverWebinar, Zoom, etc), for Social Marketing is daunting.

I need to find a way to outsource this so it is kept up to date, relevant and truly depicts who I am and the advantages of taking my course.

Let's talk about the services you offer, who do you help, and how do you help?

I work with small to medium sized businesses, their owners and or staff as well as Non-Profits, their Executive Director, Treasurer, Board of Directors and/or staff.

I train and consult with these individuals on how to get accurate, up to date financial reports for effective accurate business decisions, cost effectively. Without having to have all their paperwork in order.

I work on processes through training on how to save at least 25% of your current bookkeeping time and time is money!

What's your best advice for those that desire to improve their finances?

Gain Financial Empowerment! Truly understand your financial reports to make accurate effective decisions to improve profits. This can only be done with up to date reports at your fingertips.

Reports that have meaning to your unique business. Financial Reports should be available within 2 weeks of your month end, and you should only spend 15 minutes a month reviewing them and understanding the TOP 3 areas that need focus for the next month/quarter. Concentrate on those 3! Repeat the process in the next month.

With all that you've accomplished so far, did setting goals contribute to your success so far?

Goals and dreams. Sometimes life gets in the way. However keep focused and push forward. It may be a little bit later than you planned, but don’t live life with regret. (something my father in law told me on his deathbed - he had so many regrets).

Here at GoalSetters, we like to say " A Goal Without A Plan is Just A Wish", what's your advice on the best way that people can go about accomplishing the goals that they set?

Set a realistic time frame of what needs to be accomplished and when. The key is be REALISTIC and do not be hard on yourself. Remember - you are on a learning curve. Some items may take longer to learn than others as you are moving forward to your goal. Also remember, you may find that veering the path as you go forward may not only be necessary but enlightening to what your true value to your market is!

In closing, for those that may require your services or may need mentorship, how can they connect with you?
