My biggest challenge has been growing my business working alongside my 9 to 5. There have been some long days doing both and learning a new skill. Learning how to run my own business and realize I am the boss.

Can you tell us what type of business you run and how long you've been operating this business?

I own a virtual bookkeeping firm. I can help small business owners near and far save time and money using my Quickbooks services. We can help with payroll, A/R and A/P. I started my LLC July 27 2020 and launched Sept 1st 2020.

Can you share with us some details about how you got started in the Bookkeeping Industry?

I actually never envisioned being an entrepreneur. My dream graduating from college was to be a marketing executive in NYC or Chicago, get married and have a family. We all know that life throws some curveballs and that's not the order it happened to me.

My current husband had come home from a deployment while I was home from college. We knew each other in high school and kept in touch. We went on a date and that's all she wrote. I still held onto the dream of becoming a big marketing executive. Little did I know, we would move to extremely small towns that did not have those opportunities. I started working at Penske Truck Leasing and my dream came back.

However, we moved to an even smaller town in NC with less opportunities. There was not a Penske location we moved to but they allowed me to work from home for their national call center. In 2016 we had our first son and I loved the opportunity to be working from home to spend the most amount of time with him as I could. We moved to IL in 2017 and had our second son in May 2018. Still working from home and no opportunity to grow. We planned to move back to our home town in Melbourne, FL.

Because there are tons of government contracting companies, I assumed I would get a job in logistics and my executive dream would be back on the table. I got an interview and was so excited. After a long 6 weeks of not hearing from them, I was finally told they went in a different direction.

I was devastated but now so thankful. It led me onto a new path. With Penske, working for the call center, I had the best of both worlds. Kids still had to be in daycare but I had no commute and no required overtime. If I had gotten the job at the other company, I would have been working 50 hours plus and adding a commute.

I wanted to spend more time with my 2 sons, Austin and Zander, not less. It led me to do some soul searching and to an ad on Facebook. The ad said to become a bookkeeper. I clicked on it and it made me excited. I knew this is what I was looking for. I have a business management degree and loved accounting. I also have a marketing degree and could finally use it!

The best thing was that I could replace my income, work less and spend more time with my kids. 2 days later, I signed up for the course and joined the support group to help my new business grow. I hit my 1 year mark on July 27th and it has been a crazy but fun ride and I know it is the path I am supposed to be on. I love my clients and love that I can grow and make the opportunities that I want without being told by my boys that I have to do something or worry about calling out sick too take care of my children.

If you've had some challenges and roadblocks along the way, Can you share with us what some of those challenges have been in regards to starting or running this business and how you overcame them?

My biggest challenge has been growing my business working alongside my 9 to 5. There have been some long days doing both and learning a new skill. Learning how to run my own business and realize I am the boss.

From the beginning, I have had support with multiple coaches and believe that is what has helped me overcome and stay with the business. There has been plenty of time I thought this isn't working and I should just go get a job. Anytime I started feeling this I would reach out and have the support I needed to know I wasn't crazy or alone in these feelings.

I have my bookkeeping coach and support group, a business coach and mindset coach. These coaches have helped me keep going throughout the last year.

Let's talk about the services you offer, who do you help, and how do you help?

I am a full service bookkeeping firm. We offer basic monthly bookkeeping which includes categorizing all transactions coming in and going out for any bank account, credit card or loan. It also includes reconciling each of those accounts to make sure the transactions coming into Quickbooks match what's on your statement. Basic bookkeeping also includes sending reports such as P&L and Balance sheet along with a review.

Payroll, A/R and A/P are also services I can help with.

I help small businesses with 50 employees or less typically in the construction or lawn care industry.

What's your best advice for those that desire to improve their  finances?

The best advice is to separate your personal and business finances. You will never have a clear view of how much money your business is making if it is commingled together.

There are always going to be instances where we forget our card or something along those lines but you want to try to keep as divided as possible. If you have to, buy something with your business card and code it to the owner's draw instead of buying something for your business with your personal card.

With all that you've accomplished so far, did setting goals contribute to your success so far?

Setting my big vision goal of being a 6 figure business owner helps keep me going. I take actionable steps everyday, even if it's just 1 thing. The small things add up and before you know it you are onto the next goal.

Here at GoalSetters, we like to say " A Goal Without A Plan is Just A Wish", what's your advice on the best way that people can go about accomplishing the goals that they set?

Invest in yourself and hire a coach of some sort. They help keep you accountable and can help motivate you during the entrepreneur emotional roller coaster.

In closing, for those that may require your services or may need mentorship, how can they connect with you?
