My biggest challenge was imposter syndrome.  I knew that I wanted to start my own business, and I had the years of experience behind me to find the clientele that would make me profitable.  However, I worried that I wasn’t as successful as some of my peers, or that I was coming in “too late in the game”, as others had operated their accounting firms for many years.

Can you tell us what type of business you run and how long you've been operating this business?

I have an accounting business that I started in January 2019, a few months after my mother passed away.  It was a lifelong dream of mine to have my own accounting firm, and after 20 years in corporate America I decided it was time to go out on my own.

Can you share with us some details about how you got started in the Accounting and Bookkeeping Industry?

I took my first accounting class my junior year of high school, and I knew at that moment I wanted to be an accountant.  I have worked in both the public and private sector, for small accounting firms and large corporations.  I didn’t get my Bachelor’s degree until 2012, and that decision opened the door for me to be hired at a big ten accounting firm.  I graduated with my Masters of Accountancy in 2016, and that was one of my biggest achievements.  I felt I had come full circle, from that young girl in a high school accounting class to an experienced, successful accountant.

If you've had some challenges and roadblocks along the way, Can you share with us what some of those challenges have been in regards to starting or running this business and how you overcame them?

My biggest challenge was imposter syndrome.  I knew that I wanted to start my own business, and I had the years of experience behind me to find the clientele that would make me profitable.  However, I worried that I wasn’t as successful as some of my peers, or that I was coming in “too late in the game”, as others had operated their accounting firms for many years.  I soon figured out that the only thing stopping my success was myself.  Once I started to believe I could help small businesses with their accounting solutions, my firm began to grow.

Let's talk about the services you offer, who do you help, and how do you help?

I help small business owners save time and maximize their profits by providing a variety of accounting solutions; I focus on the numbers so they can focus on growing their business.  I specialize in helping service providers and e-commerce businesses.   Some of my services include monthly bookkeeping, new business setup, payroll processing, and accounting cleanup.

What's your best advice for those that would like to outsource their payroll process?

Payroll can be a complicated issue, as there are so many rules and regulations to follow.  I suggest that when you outsource your payroll, you hire an expert that can handle all aspects of the process.  It is important that your employees are paid, but you must also remain compliant by paying in payroll taxes and filing payroll tax returns.  If not, your business could face huge penalties.

With all that you've accomplished so far, did setting goals contribute to your success so far?

I am a firm believer in setting goals, and it has made such a difference in my business.  I started with small, reachable goals that I knew I could obtain, and then as I got comfortable in my business I added more intensive goals.  I think once you stop aiming for goals you become lackluster, not just in business but in your personal life as well.

Here at GoalSetters, we like to say " A Goal Without A Plan is Just A Wish", what's your advice on the best way that people can go about accomplishing the goals that they set?

My advice would be to start with something small, and go from there.  It’s so much easier to work towards a goal when you can see the finish line and you feel like you are making progress.  I think people sometimes set lofty goals, and when it becomes hard they give up.  By starting with smaller goals, it makes it easier to accomplish, which gives you the motivation to keep going.

In closing, for those that may require your services or may need mentorship, how can they connect with you?
